Red Tint After ColoringUpdated 9 days ago

Issue

Some customers notice that their hair develops a reddish or orangish tint after coloring or over time.

Cause

There are two main reasons this can happen:

  1. Color choice – Using a shade that is too light can cause the underlying pigments in your hair to react with the warmer tones in the dye, resulting in a reddish/orangish appearance. A longer application time of 30-40mins may also lessen the tint.

  2. Warm undertones – Our lighter shades naturally contain some warmth, which can become more noticeable over time.

Other contributing factors include:

  • Using non–color-safe shampoo and conditioner.

  • Sun exposure or swimming in chlorinated pools.

  • Washing with unfiltered water containing chlorine or iron, which can react with the pigments in your hair and cause fading or discoloration.

Solution

  • Switch to a color-safe shampoo and conditioner to help maintain tone and vibrancy.

  • Consider going one shade darker, which reduces the likelihood of red/orange tones appearing.

  • Use a hair-toning shampoo after coloring to neutralize warmer undertones.

  • Protect your hair from the sun and chlorinated pools.

  • Use a shower cap or install a shower filter to reduce mineral exposure.
